Yue Xing Mao[Note 1] (Chinese: 月星貓 ) - otherwise known as Mao, is a dragoness who lives in the closed off mountains of the Steppe in Far East. A lost god of a distant star, Mao is the youngest and only daughter of Fae Queen Mab and Dragon King Zhoulong, the Black Dread.A proud descendant of the Tian Xinglong Brood, Mao is the leader and founder of the Baishang Clan - a tribe belonging to the mountains of the Steppe. She founded the tribe in the mountains sometime during the Second Astral Era with a Xaela by the name of Huamei. Now she rules it in its entirety along with her brother, Laolong "Jacen" Baishang. She is also the owner of Changxi Jewels - a company specializing in the crafting of enchanted jewels as well as other jewelry pieces.

Appearance
Mao appears to be a short, raen female with pastel iridescent scales. Unlike most auri however, she has a short puffy tail. Her eyes are a pale silver color that has a faint illumination to them. Normally, her hair is white with a silvery hue to it, however, sometimes one will see her with black or red hair though that is on rare occasion. Currently she sports a silver hair color with blackened ends after her return from her homestar.Due to the interference of one of her elder "sisters", Mao was severely injured during a ritual. Her skin was marred with a magical rebound scar. It covers the length of her left arm, across her chest, most of the right side of her torso and leg. Both of her feet were burned as well. Her scales were able to recover but her skin appears to be permanately burned.

Personality
Sometimes it's hard to get a read on My Lady. If one were to go by the expression on her face, most of the time, they wouldn't think she would have a single thought going on betwixt those horns. On the surface, she's a privileged princess, an heiress who shouldn't want for anything. But I have the honor of knowing her as something more. My Lady has those privileges because she worked for them herself. People follow her because she's honest. She did not temper - as you people call it - this nation into following her. They wanted a strong leader who would fight for their voice, and she will fight until her people's enemies are eradicated. If that doesn't inspire devotion then perhaps your people are the problem.

Mao has a sort of a fluid personality. Most of the time, she comes across as a friendly au'ra who seems a little lost or even confused at times. She's always open to making a new friend and likes to learn about the things they like - especially if it has anything to do with their culture, favorite foods, or their interests in magic or weaponry. She has a warm and gentile nature, usually coming off as mothery or to some, a sister long missed. She loves and cherishes each of her lovers/partners, faults and all and will help them in any way she can. Mao believes that loyalty and love builds everlasting bonds - as taught by her brothers and birth Father.However, Mao can be just as cruel as she is sweet and kind. The Iridescent Dragon of the Fae realm is no laughing matter nor to be taken lightly. Like some Fae, her innocent and unassuming appearance tend to lead people to underestimate her and it is something that Mao can and will use to her advantage in any situation she deems necessary. Mao is very observant and has survived multiple wars, assassination attempts and the temperament of the "Gods" of her former world. She is very protective of those under her care or to those she's offered her protection to.

Although Mao has what is considered a grey moral compass, she will go out of her way to help those who need it. She's known to be a merciful leader to her people and a cruel one when her enemies come to her doors. As the protector of her family, Mao takes whatever roles she's given rather seriously. However, this does not mean she is submissive to those who have her favor either. Mao is often times brutally honest with people and will spare no words if she thinks it needs to be said or heard. While she does aim to keep people pleased and happy with her, she also doesn't mind being the necessary evil or the voice of reason - despite having no such voice for herself to talk her down from rash and often harmful situations. Mao has almost no self preservation instincts and will often put the safety of others above her own.
Mao has very mixed feelings about her birth family and prefers her found family and friends to them. However, after being introduced to her two half sisters (from Mab), she is considering amends with her maternal side of the family with the exception of her Aunt and elder adoptive siblings. She will go through great lengths to make sure they are safe considering most of them are mortal or at the very least, still susceptible to injury and harm. Even as the Dragonsong War ended, she finds it difficult to go to Ishgard for any particular reason that doesn't have to do with a friend - staying particularly far away from the Church and it's peoples.

The Queen's Hounds

Mao is a very capable healer, even without the aid of her nouliths. She doesn't always use aetherical healing either, being adept in using natural remedies injuries and the like. This doesn't stop at physical injuries either - she is also known for taking care of things like curses and hexes - anything that can afflict the body or soul negatively.Combat Medic
Having lived as long as she has, Mao is an experienced combat medic. She is able to keep a cool head in most situations when it comes to healing the wounded. There is no injury that is too grisly for her to look at and tend to. It is also known that Mao is never defenseless - even when she is healing.Made By Hand
Mao's nouliths were made by her to suit her magic and abilities. Due to the nature of her aether, a different approach was necessary to calibrate her nouliths so they wouldn't continue to break when she would heal en mass.

Mao was hand taught how to use the sword by her Mother, Kezia. It's an art she takes great pride in for that fact alone. She is a fierce swordswoman and cares for the preservation of such. While she is skilled enough to wield a two handed sword, she prefers a single handed blade better as it works with her agility and stamina.No Shield
Mao has a stark preference to not use a shield during battle or sparring even. Despite plenty of teachings of the art, she prefers to keep her other arm free and will even use it to block attacks since she is stronger than most.Holier Than Thou
It comes to a surprise to most that Mao has zero holy power, especially any that connects to the Eorzea's Twelve Gods. However, she can use divine powers that paladins use. Whatever source she pulls power from is not of Eorzean descent or making. It's a well guarded secret by Mao herself.

Trivia
Xing Mao - written as 星貓 - means star cat. She was named by her Father who named her based on "feline like face full of stars" as a child.
A rough translation of her name is "star cat who was born under the moon"
Mao actually used to like swimming, and especially enjoyed doing so on moonlight nights. However, to this day, she is still afraid of the ocean - a trait she shares with her husband Oosra.
Sometimes, she smells like seawater only because of Fang, who happens to love the ocean and lives directly next to it.
Mao's first idol gift came from Oosra as a gift for Valentine's Day. She keeps it in her office, locked behind protected glass.
She also has a stuffed carbuncle toy that she keeps in the same type of glass. It was a gift from a past friend.

Mao's twin brother who she will occasionally call by his real name mostly when he's in trouble. While originally separated long ago, Mao never once believed her brother to be truly gone, tirelessly waiting to find him again - no matter the incarnation or star - as he was the only family she had left. All efforts paid off when she finally met him at Lunar Rose Adventuring Academy. Though he had no memories, he was still her brother as he still felt the innate instinct to protect his sister. They've since reconciled and caught up - expanding their family farther as they rule their people together.Just don't mention how they look. They know.

Mao has raised Darma, Pyter and Luce since they were mere pups. They are unwaveringly loyal to Mao and protect her with a fierceness. It's only recent that they are now able to take humanoid forms. They sometimes behave more like her children rather than pets, often looking for her approval or happiness at their antics, especially when she seems sad.
The General:

Mao's beloved corgi, General, named after her husband Fang. The little pup is the "guardian" of Mao's abode in the Goblet of Ul'dah. Keeping pests in line and running a tight ship to make sure his Master's house is in proper order when she returns. All he demands in return is a meal and a headpat or several.

Between the boughs and neath those halcyon leaves, lies a grove hidden from view. The smell of wisteria and lavender, water and fallen dew, welcomes the curious towards a wood worn manse. Intermingled between the nature settles the smell of inks and parchments, a rich scent that blends perfectly with all around it.
Social graces and social circles is where the socialite princess can be found floating around. A lazy bee collects no honey and sometimes secrets are sweeter than sugar. Or something like that. You can find her here, bullying the bartender.
